Really nice rooms many with balcony overlooking the Wye Horseshoe and an excellent breakfast. This hotel has one of the best restaurants we have eaten in lately. Really good quality, fresh, well cooked food. For dinner two of us paid about £35 for two courses including wine and a panoramic view of the Wye, Great atmosphere. We thought the whole experience was excellent value.

Visit 6th March 2009I was very pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and value for money of my stay at The Royal Hotel. The Late Rooms info stated that the hotel had been recently refurbished which was clearly the case. It merits the 3* rating, and was excellent value for money due to the discount from the normal room rate. The service was worthy of note as it was very friendly. I would certainly return if I have occasion to re-visit Ross-on-Wye for business or leisure in the future.

Due to a large event there were no parking spaces when we arrived but the reception staff 'squeezed us in' and we couldn't book a table for dinner so had to go outside. Breakfast was fine but the service was very slow. Loved the position of the hotel and will go again.

The Ross GetawayA wonderful weekend at the Royal Hotel, food was excellent and the waiter service good. The rooms were clean & welcoming.Customer service at reception and in the restaurant were very good, the bar staff however were not quite so enthusiastic/welcoming.

The hotel was easy to find and parking was available on our late arrival, although the next day the car park was very busy (market day). The car park is pay and display, although this is waived for hotel clients. Courtesy and politeness was received from each member of staff we met. The breakfast service was fast and the food was excellent, both in terms of choice and quality. The room, which had a beautiful view, was well furnished with unexpected complimentary items. The resident plastic duck in the bathroom was a nice touch!

Royal HotelBrilliant location - delightful place and for the price really good surroundings. Menu choice a bit limited but nicely done. They do seem to have an aversion to decent lighting - evening restarurant was dark - breakfast room, I literally could not see the contents of cereal pots etc. - all the windows are at the opposite end of the room - the lights seemed to be there but not switched on. Shame because in every other way this was a delightful find.

Malvern trip spring 2009As per usual, we have stayed here on several occasions and have been unable to fault the accommodation, staff and food.Always excellent value for money. If you fancy food out there is a local pub (5 min down the hill) down by the river, The Hope & Anchor, that is clean and friendly and has a fair selection of good quality food & wine at a reasonable price, with a good view.

Apart from creaky floor boards (which added to the charm) and a bathroom door that sprung slightly ajar, this hotel was fantastic. The staff were polite and helpful, the sash window functioned properly (I have experienced many hotels where these have been left to ruin), the refurbishment was tasteful, the food was lovely and the general cleanliness of the hotel was excellent - NO dust or grime here. A credit to the staff.

A journey break on the way home after businessA delightful hotel set almost in the town centre offering good quality accomodation and excellent food. Ross-on-Wye is a very nice quiet country town with numerous little \"busy\" shops and quite a few hostiliers.

Great location and valueVery happy with the Royal. I got a great little single room for good money with a nice view. And it's right in the middle of town without being the slightest bit noisy. Easy parking and lovely location.

Excellent valueWe were given a room in the new wing which was very big. The only fault I could pick in the room was one of the glasses in the bathroom was not clean. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. The breakfast in the morning was excellent with hot dishes being cooked to order. Parking was full when we got there but the management were very helpful ensuring we could get parked.

Overall a great place to stay and excellent value for money.Nice location, great views from our bedroom of the river Wye. Only slight complaint is the bedroom was a bit dated and could do with redecorating, although the bathroom was fine.Be warned, the hotel is very high up, so you'll need all your energy to get back there once you've been down to the river!Staff very extremely friendly and helpful and breakfast was well organised and very tasty. Only thing that let it down was the coffee which was warm but not hot, however this is true of 95% of hotel I've stayed in.

Review of The Royal Hotel, Ross on WyeCheap hotel, with good location for walking. A few gremlins were apparent, viz. remote control was split in two, very small television and hotel staff mainly young South Africans with little personality. Overall ok on a budget.

Hotel is looking very tired. Decor poor, especially in older part of hotel where my room was. Staff friendly and helpful. However would definitely not stay if I was paying full room price (£70) for B&B. Overall a fun stay - bed was very comfortable.

One night stayVery nice, characterful, old-school hotel. We were given a lovely big room with a view over the Wye. This is a very attractive old hotel with creaky floors and high ceilings and lots of character. The service was low-key and efficient - just what we like. Extremely good vaue for money, as we booked through LateRooms on the day. Great choice of cooked breakfast options. It has a lively bar and resturant, and although we didn't dine in the evening the menu looked good.

Don't let the Greene king name put you offThis is an outstanding hotel with very careful staff doing a great job. Others in the industry should visit and make notes. The corridors to the rooms are a little awkward in places and the floorboards creak but one stays in old hotels for the atmosphere otherwise we'd all be in travelbodges. The food too is superb with a very good original menu, adequate wine list and excellent attentive service despite there being a large group in for a birthday party.Excellent.

Quick trip to Ross on WyeWe only stayed one night and found the hotel comfortable and central. The room was large, with a view out over the gardens and with a lovely bathroom. We ate dinner in the bar (recommended in other reviews) and it was great although when we went out for a smoke after the main course they removed half a bottle of wine and threw it away (they did offer me two free drinks to replace it). The staff were quick, efficient and courteous. The only disappointment was breakfast which frankly wasnt as good as the one we had eaten the previous day in Tesco's!

Interesting breakfastFriendly greeting, good evening meal. Surprised to be in annexe, but room pleasant, heating a little primitive. Breakfast good but spoilt by water gushing through ceiling. Staff little uncertain how to deal with situation, could have done with more communication of problem. Departure rather cheerless.

The Royal is in a quiet location close to the town centre and provides lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The beer was very good and the dinner whilst limited in choice was inexpensive and good. Breakfast was one of the best I've had for a long time with a wide choice of cereals, yogurts, pastries, kippers, smoked salmon, various eggs and the traditional full English breakfast. Service was good and the stay at £40 a couple exceedingly good value. I would certainly go back.

The staff were courteous and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed with a great view across the river. We had a very nice bar meal on the first night and bagged one of the few un-booked tables. 5 minutes later and we would have had to go elsewhere! We booked a bar meal table for the second night and service was good despite a function going on elsewhere. Breakfast on Saturday was fine with fast service. The cooked breakfast was well presented and nicely done. On Sunday the breakfast room was packed, with overflow into the bar and service was very much slower, with reduced portions as the bacon must have been running out! Parking was straightforward and free on the Friday night when we arrived but returning from a day out on Saturday afternoon there was no space left and we had to park on the street outside. Overall a very pleasant hotel break.

hotel with a viewWe arrived on a very hot day,and able to take advantage ot the outside bar decking area. The view overlooking the river was fantastic, unfortunately we were unable to find any seats to eat our meal outside, probably because it was such a lovely evening everyone had the same idea.We ate at a nearby pub,and came back to find seats available, enabling us to enjoy a bottle of wine and that glorius view. The hotel was clean, rambling with creaky floor boards and the breakfast menu excellant.
