General Description

The hotel is centrally located in Manhattan on 31st Street, just three blocks from the Empire State Building, in between Fifth Avenue and Broadway. This property is a great value for the traveller on a budget, who wishes to be close to shopping, the garment district, and Times Square. Traditional building with impressively ornate stone carvings. Rooms differ in size from small to medium. Modestly furnished rooms with patterned bedspreads, clean bathrooms, and basic amenities, including air-conditioning, clock radio, in-room safe, telephone with voice mail and data port, color TV with pay movies, WebTV Internet access, Nintendo games, iron and ironing boards. The medium-sized, brightly decorated lobby has an elegant Renaissance design and fixtures. The lobby has a turn-of-the-century feel, with carpeting and a small waiting area. There is no restaurant on the premises. However, local restaurants have delivery arrangements with the hotel. Free coffee and muffins in lobby each morning. 1 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 15 kms to the airport (la guardia), 25 kms to the airport (jfk), 3 minute walk to the nearest metro station (penn station), Close to the station (outside door).

As someone once said you don't go to New York to sit in a hotel room. The Wolcott provides a great basis to explore New York, the location is excellent. They provided coffee and muffins in the lobby every morning. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly, especially as we needed to check in at 3am. The room was clean and basic, but the price was very good for the location. This is a hotel for anyone that wants to go to New York and have a safe place to sleep, if your looking for luxuary best try spending more money.

The Wolcott Hotel was very conveniently located to sites of NYC. Shops were close, as were places to eat. Good neighborhood and explored at night safely. Room was laid out well for three adults (three single beds).

The hotel is in an excellant location. The value is very good and the you can request the one of rooms that is of great value. There are only 4 or 5 of these value rooms in the entire hotel so you must contact the hotel directly for them to check availablity. The only draw back is that you have to share a bathroom with one other guest, however you do have a sink in your room. Very good location and the service. The hotel has a lot of history and exceptional decor. Be sure to vist Ayza the Cafe'/Wine bar across the street. Food and service is GREAT! Tell the owner that Jason from Michigan sent you. Make sure to walk outside at night and look directly up at the Empire State Building. Great photo shots at night and day! Enjoy New York City!

my husband was very dissatified where we are from a suite means a suite. This was a very confined room.

This is obviously an old hotel and could use a refurbishment - however the rooms are spacious and clean, beds are comfy and the location is fantastic - 15 mins easy walk to Time Square and Broadway - great for budget with easy access!

We couldn't believe how much we paid for the worst room in the city! It was so small we couldn't leave any of our luggage open at all. We had enough room to walk around the bed and that was all! We could change channels on the TV without a remote! It was unbelievable! We had to cross a stairwell to get to our room and the smells were awful. The staff was horrible too. They weren't friendly at all!

An older hotel but great location. Don't expect luxury, but surpassed many tourist hotels in other countries, and the staff were courteous - a seeming rarity. Coffee and muffins in the foyer for breakfast may not suit those who like a full breakfast, but was great. Had a lower level room looking out to the well, so little light, but hey, not in Manhattento sit in a hotel room. Would recommend.

"Great Location! Great staff!! super muffun breakfast!! very comfortable rooms and overall a very pleasant stay. Shower was a bit off by changing water temperature from freezing to boiling by itself. And also keep in mind to bring your own haidryer as the one provided is very old and turns off every 5 min if gets too heated.Overall, I would definetly come back to that hotel again."

A century old lobby that conveys the feeling of old New York....and its near almost everything. Low rates, nice staff.

Before staying at the Wolcott, I read a very mixed bag of reviews, some mentioning bed bugs and broken showers. Our stay was uneventful. The air conditioning worked fine, the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was a little small, but nothing we couldn't handle. The elevator was super slow, but that didn't particularly faze me. Great location, though, you can see the Empire State Building right in front of the front door of the hotel. There was a lot nearby, including Penn Station and Macy's. It's a great central location. I think that this hotel is written off a lot, and most of the people staying there are European, obviously they know where it's at. I would definitely stay here again.

If you're coming to the city with lots of things to do and all you really need is a place to sleep and that's it, then this is a good place to stay. It was clean but it doesn't have a lot of amenities. What we found strange was that they did not provide wash cloths for the bathroom. You have to bring your own wash cloth or loofa. The location is really convenient since you are close by to 3 different subway lines and they did provide breakfast which consisted of coffee, tea and muffins, but do not fret if you're in the mood for more then just that, their is a Dunkin Donuts right across the street.

"The room was spacious enough for us, since we were there just a few days and were sightseeing most of the time. I feel it would have been too cramped for business travel or a long visit. They made it clear that if you forgot something, you could get it at the 24hr deli, and the internet was pricey. Overall, no complaints."

This hotel is awesome! Old world charm and quaint rooms, this place is somewhere you want to return to over and over. The Wolcott is clean and very nice. Centrally located and close to everything. The staff was awesome. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I even left a brand new digital camera in my room and did not realize til I got home. I called the hotel and the housekeeper found it and turned it in. They FedEx'd it to me no problem. Such honesty was refreshing. The continental breakfast in the morning was a very nice extra. I can't believe how reasonable the price was to stay here. I will definitely stay here every time I go to New York City in the future and will recommend them to everyone I know!!! A+++

The room at The Wolcott was decent. It was in a great neighborhood. The room was large for NY but it was a bit dingey. The carpet was ripped in certain areas and the wallpaper was a bit dirty. Our overall experience was good we just wished the room had been a bit cleaner.

The wolcott was definitly a good place to stay & i would definity recommend it to others. In Manhattan it can be pricey to find a clean room with your own bathroom. The wolcott was in a good neighborhood just blocks from time square. The hotel room was clean & the beds were very comfortable. I will be staying there again next time i go to New York
