The sort of room you would take a mistress that you didn't like very much, but the pool and leisure facilities were great.

I referred at the time of my departure to the absence of tea and coffee making facilitiies in the room; as I was only staying for one night and as the room was very satisfactory this was not a burning issue for me; the staff member expressed surprise; he thought these facilities were standard; I may not have seen them; they should not in any event be hidden.

OK at Laterooms priceOK for one nights stopover. On arrival were told that our booking had been cancelled by Laterooms (which I can't believe is true) but they managed to find us another. Room was clean but soulless and the bathroom door had a fist mark in it as if someone had punched it, and wood shaved off the main door as if someone had forced entry at some point. Good value for central London tho at Laterooms price (£79) - Normal tariff was stated as £239. Sadly left cossies at home so no chance to try the Spa

The first room I was given was across the roads in a very dark and run down part of hotel, the room had a broken window and radiator. The next room I was given in main hotel was better but had no air con/ heating control and the TV initially was not working.I would not stay at this hotel again

Very long queues for breakfast which made us late for conference. Cooked food was cold.Excellent waiting service in restaurant but poor food.

Watch out for the upgrade!The bedding was stained and dirty and there weren't enough towels even for one person. I paid £20 to upgrade to a so called \"executive\" room, as I did last time (very nice room last time) and I don't think the room was any different to a normal one. But for the upgrade I'd still say £109 is very good value for money though the food is really expensive and not particularly good quality (a burger was about £12 and came within seconds, so it must have been microwaved).

The web rate I got was excellent value for money, but I think I the full rate would not have been justified. The room is nice but somewhat dated and facilities in the room are far from those of a luxury hotel. For example, I had to place cotton wool around the shower knob to make it work and the wardrobe doors were really hard to slide open. I would definitely recommend the hotel at the web weekend rate, but discourage anyone from bookign a room at the full rate.

Very PoorVery poor accommodation and food. I frequently travel and have stayed in Thistle hotels throughout the UK and can say the Barbican Thistle was the worst I have come across by a long way.

In the trade !I run a 14 bedroom guest house in Oxford and was surprised at the poor standard of the bedroom decor and size of room.We paid £218.00 for 2 nights and I recall that late rooms said we were saving approximately £200.00. I find it impossible to understand how this dated small room could ever be worth its full rate let alone what we were charged !In my guest house our smallest rooms are the same size as your hotel room.The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was also good. To sum up I would liken our room to a Premier Inn, although the over all experience was better than that it fell far short of what I'd expect from a Thistle Hotel.In future my choice will be between a low end premier inn or Mal maison, it was a false economy to choose the Thistle Hotel.

easy walk with luggage from Old Street u/gReception very efficient.Room on 6th floor with very good view.Room very warm, even though all radiators off.Comfy bed.Used swimming pool/steam room/sauna 2 times - very nice.Excellent breakfast next morning - seemed to be free for this during October.If we are coming back to this area, this is the hotel we will select.

Fairly basic small room for the money paid. Room in need of an upgrade. Seemed to be at back of hotel so nice and quite. Good breakfast - which was a special offer and included in the room price. Quite a distance from the tube but hotel did offer a courtsey bus - although the driver had to be persuaded to stick to the timetable.

This is the worst London hotel I have ever stayed in Unable to find accommodation on my normal corporate website I was pleased to see that a Thistle was available only a short walk from my workplace for the week. At £140/night I assumed that this hotel would be of a reasonable standard though was expecting it not to be great.Whilst having no iron in the room is commonplace at some hotels, the state of the iron that was delivered was unlike anything I had ever seen and I now have two damaged shirts.The room was filthy. I have seen cleaner multi-storey car parks.On the hottest night of the year to date I requested that the window catch was released to give me more than an inch of opening given that my alotted bedroom was not air-conditioned. I was told that this was not allowed though eventially concierge arrived to remove the safety cable using a toolbox consisting of a knife, some tweezers and a badly damaged screwdriver.In the time I stayed there none of the operator, reception or room service ever answered the telephone yet I received a call at midnight asking if I had finished with the iron!The hotel appeared to be a centre for American sight-seeing tourists who all appeared to have regretted visiting London, no doubt due to this ghastly hotel.
