We booked at the Occidental Grand, but because they were overbooked they moved us to their ""sister hotel"", the Tropical Princess. It was a nightmare! Our first room was infested with over 40 mosquitoes. Our second room (after we complained - I hate mosquitoes!) had only one or two mosquitoes to start with, but gradually the infestation from the first room (one floor below) moved into the second floor and our second room. Plus, after the first night, we woke up with BEDBUG bites all over our legs!!! (We also saw other guests with similar bites - they are different than mosquito bites in that they are smaller and redder.) There are also VERY limited activities that are actually free, unlike many other hotels - only things like their ""merengue class"" and ""spanish lessons"". Unless you book in the more expensive side of the hotel (Princess Caribe or something), you do not have access to most of their restaurants without paying additional costs. You only have access to the Brazilian (which is good) and the Dominican (we didn't try). Finally, the main dining hall does NOT always purify their water - my fiance and I got sick both times we ate there (and not when we ate anywhere else in the DR). The second time was right before our flight home - which I spent in the plane bathroom! Other than their garden walk (between their lobby and all of the rooms/pools), which is beautiful if slightly inconvenient, there is absolutely nothing that would ever entice me to go back to this hotel! Please beware!!!
