Once called the Queen of the Gulf, the Hotel Galvez is a Spanish colonial hotel located across the street from the beach and the Gulf of Mexico and approximately one hour from Houston International Airport. The hotel is only a trolley ride away from downtown Galveston, the Strand Historic District, shopping, and museums. Hotel amenities include the pool (with swim-up bar), wading pool, hot tub, and tropical garden. The hotel was built in 1911 and is decorated with 1930s furnishings--with its lobby, music hall, parlors, loggia, and veranda evoking a bygone era. Bernardo's, the hotel's restaurant, offers continental breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a champagne Sunday brunch. For a fee, guests may golf at the Galveston Country Club and use the fitness center and tennis courts at the Galveston Racquet Club.
